Steeprock sits on a 70-acre mining claim in the heart of the San Juan Mountains. Not for the faint of heart, Steeprock truly is an inspiring space. The mile long rugged dirt road (accessible by foot and by high clearance 4-wheel drive vehicles) is the perfect introduction to what lies ahead: a beautiful, hand hewn, off-grid work of art literally perched atop a cliff overlooking red rock cliffs rising vertically from the San Miguel river floor. The experience is awe inspiring.

The building is consists of three levels: a workshop/studio space with full woodshop and work tables plus a full bath on the first level, a master bedroom and full kitchen on the second level and a bedroom with attached sleeping loft on the third level. There are upper and lower outdoor seating and deck areas as well as an outhouse with a remarkable view. The space is heated by a large woodstove located on the bottom floor and surrounded by picture windows that are “filled” with imagery of the mountainside. The space is perfect for a one-person residency or a collaborative space for a small group.

Experience nature via the remote access walking trail out the back door or take some time off and try your hand at fly fishing in the San Miguel River below. Steeprock is in close proximity to innumerable hikes and trails in the region as well as the Telluride ski area in the winter months.


Common Areas - Kitchen and Living

The kitchen and cozy living space is located on the second floor at the north side of the building. It is accessed via the spiral staircase that rises from the workshop below or through the . It is equipped with stove and oven, refrigerator and all cooking implements for creating delicious, nourishing food during your stay.

Master Bedroom

The master bedroom is a beautiful space to call home. It is south facing and thus the room is drenched in warm sunlight that filters in through the many windows throughout the day. It is furnished with a queen size bed, small seating area, writing desk and closet. Enjoy a cup of coffee on the small porch and listen to the sound of the San Miguel River below. The spiral staircase leads to a small loft landing that then connects through a door to the upstairs bedroom.

Third Floor Bedroom

The third floor bedroom is nestled into the peak of the building and has a magical view up the canyon to the east. It is furnished with a full size bed, writing desk and sitting area. The bedroom is accessed via a ladder in the kitchen/common room. It is a cozy nest high above the rest of the building.
